We’re well into January and I was planning to do this post earlier, but I got swamped with work and school obligations and kept putting it off. Today I’ve decided that enough is enough and finally sat down to write my thoughts on a bunch of lovely beauty products you can see on the picture above. This is a small collection of my favourite and most reached for products of year 2016. I’ve limited myself to picking only three from each category (or else I could go on forever) – base, eyes, cheeks, lips and nails. Let’s dive right into it, shall we?
For the past few months my skin has been going crazy – it’s either looking perfect enough that I don’t even need a foundation or it turns crappy as hell, so all my foundations look cakey and terrible. Fun, right? Since none of my usual foundations seemed to work (and I own a whole lot of them) and I needed something appropriate for dry, dull and sensitive skin, I kept trying out different combinations until I’ve finally found the one. Makeup Factory Illuminating Skin Perfector is a primer that brightens up your skin in a lovely way and prepares it for foundation. It’s been my go-to base for the past few months and there’s a whole review coming your way. My current favourite foundation is L’Oreal True Match, which is perfect for my dry skin. The shade is a bit off (too warm) but it blends well and I kinda like the way it makes my skin look more healthy. Catrice Liquid Camouflage concealer is, hands down, the winning product of 2016. It covers my dark circles perfectly and stays put for hours without creasing. I’m on my third bottle and plan to buy many more.
Sense a theme here? Yep, all my favourite cheek products are highlighters, sue me. 2016 has been a year we’ve all been obsessing over trends like contouring and strobing and I’ll admit, the whole craze got to me. I can’t remember the last time I’ve applied any of my many blushers (except the one in the palette above), but highlighting my cheekbones is a daily routine I rarely skip. My ultimate favourite is an oldie from Catrice Treasure Trove collection I’ve already hit the pan on and will miss terribly once it’s used up. The other two are from famous palettes which you probably recognize – Equinox from Sleek Solstice palette and Mary-Lou Manizer from The Manizer Sisters palette.
When it comes to eyes, I’ve been wearing the same three products over and over throughout the whole year. First one is Too Faced Natural Matte eyeshadow palette I received as a birthday gift from my best friend. Out of all the palettes I own – and I have way too much – this one is my go-to everyday pick. All the shades are matte, complimentary, exceptionally pigmented and last through the whole day. I am so smitten with Too Faced eyeshadows I recently bought their Sweet Peach palette, which I will review soon. I wear eyeliner and mascara on a daily basis and my favourite ones in 2016 were L’Oreal Super Liner & Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, which gives your lashes a true falsie effect.
As I’ve probably mentioned quite a few times before, I prefer my lips either matte and bold or completely natural. For the past year I’ve been obsessed with two lipstick lines and my love for them continues – they’re all I ever wear, which says a lot since I own way more than 50 lipsticks from a variety of brands. First love are Artdeco Perfect Matte lipsticks – pigmented, moisturising and comfortable to wear even if they’re matte. Second love are Sleek Matte Me lip creams which are a recent addition to our drugstores. So far I own 4 shades which I love because they’re easy to apply, incredibly long-lasting and look lovely on the lips. They tend to dry them out a bit so make sure to apply a good lip balm first.
I’m definitely an Essie girl, through and through – if you don’t believe me, click on the search bar above and type in Essie ;). Anyway, this year I stumbled upon Orly nail polishes in one of our drugstores and picked up five different shades to try out. I still remember when I was just starting this blog and lusting after products on foreign blogs – Orly nail polishes were on top of my wishlist but somehow I never decided to place an order. Now I finally have them and understand what the hype was about. Shades are just gorgeous and they last really well. Above you can see my top used three, all of them gorgeous and glittery – Dazzle, Star Spangled & Glitz.
Have you tried any of these products? What were your favourites in 2016?
